Meet the Staff

Juliet Greenwood - Coordinator

Juliet Greenwood is an award-winning writer of short stories, and is regularly published in national magazines. She is also the author of six published novels, all of them set in North Wales. ‘North Wales Living’ Magazine described her recent novel ‘Elissa’s Castle’ as: ‘Enchanting Fiction with unexpected depth. Brilliant dialogue’. Juliet is a member of the Crime Writer’s Association, and reads for the RNA’s New Writers’ Scheme.

Alongside her writing, Juliet has worked with several local community projects. She set up and ran ‘Cwch Gwenyn’, a charity which has won national awards for its story-telling and drama projects with children and adults.

Over the past two years, Juliet has been helping to set up the ‘Stori Pen’ project, which she now coordinates.

Juliet says: ‘I love being part of ‘Stori Pen’! I have so many regrets that I didn’t ask my own relatives about their past when I had the chance, that I feel it is a real privilege to be able to share in the memories of the people of Penmaenmawr’.

Liz Ashworth - Tutor/Group leader

Liz Ashworth is an award-winning published poet, journalist and fiction writer who lives in Llanfairfechan. As a Writer on Tour with the Academi, she teaches creative writing to all age groups. Liz is also a part-time tutor at Bangor University's School of Lifelong Learning. She paints and exhibits her work, and has recently completed a novel about painters and love, Constable's Clouds.

Liz took over the leading of the ‘Stori Pen’ writers’ group from local author Anne Forrest in autumn 2006. She now uses her skills and expertise to assist in the collecting of the stories and in preparing them for publication.

Liz says: ‘Working with Stori Pen is a delight and an inspiration! Besides its intended aim as a resource for living history, the stories lend themselves perfectly to other art forms, such as poetry and drama.’

Liz welcomes suggestions for stories, and would like to hear from anyone wishing to join the project.

Sarah O’Reilly - Heritage Trails Officer

Sarah O’Reilly is an enthusiastic walker with a passion for local history. She has a degree in history from Leeds University and is currently studying part-time for a Masters Degree in Museum Studies.

Before taking up her post with Stori Pen, Sarah worked as a Heritage Assistant at Ruthin Gaol. Sarah showed visitors around the historic jail, often in costume, while telling them stories of the prisoners who were kept there in the past, from details of the meals they ate to the tale of the last man to be hanged there. Sarah still works as a volunteer Documenting Denbighshire Council’s museum collections.

While working at Ruthin Gaol, Sarah set up a series of healthy walks for local residents, which became a huge success, and which she is hoping to also establish in Penmaenmawr.

Sarah says: ‘My work with Stori Pen is my ideal job: you never know quite what the day will bring! One minute I’m researching the history of Penmaenmawr, the next I’m creating walks for local school children to get them more active and interested in their community. At the moment, I’m really enjoying setting up walks that will be suitable for families to bring their dogs along. And my own dog Zeta is looking forward to them too!’
