Recent Developments
Since the late 1980s new, small estates have been built in the centre while improvements have been made to housing in the old quarrying district with funding from Europe and elsewhere. The old disused quarry workings have been landscaped and at the time of writing (2006) the shopping centre of Pantyrafon is undergoing a much needed facelift. Despite the decline in its economic fortunes the population is at its highest ever.
With all the cosmetic work going on at the moment Penmaenmawr should be a more attractive and a nicer place to live in.
The old Penmaenmawr of hundreds of local men working in the quarries have gone for ever as have probably, in the short term, busy shops and visitors flooding into the Victorian resort.
However, the story of this town and parish should be remembered, understood and appreciated and the endeavours of our forefathers in creating such a once vibrant community should not be forgotten.
The plans, projects and proposals that follow in this report are a testimony to a new awakening amongst many in the town in not only honouring its past but looking to its future to make its residents more aware and appreciative of its fascinating past and in doing so attracting others to visit and share our heritage and aspirations.
